“For hellere lider jeg døden end jeg er din”, “jeg er din!”
Sculpture

“For hellere lider jeg døden end jeg er din”, “jeg er din!” [”For rather I die before I am yours”, “I am yours!”] consists of a series of sculptures inspired by the story of the mountain nymph, Echo as described in the Metamorphoses of Ovid. Ashamed of losing her voice, Echo hides out in the woods and one day sees Narcissus riding by on his horse. Echo falls madly in love with him at first sight, but as she is only able to repeat the last part of other people’s sentences, their communication is unclear and disclose an ambiguous play of desire and desperation. She fades away from heartbreak and turns into stones, bones and soil. Echo continues to repeat the sounds of the forest and earth.
